AC/DC, Metallica tickets rock the top events rankings

Metallica dominates TicketNews’ exclusive top events rankings for the week ending September 14, capturing the number one spot in the Top Combined Events rankings and in the Top Concert Events rankings. The band, whose first studio album in five years, “Death Magnetic,” was released last week, is getting ready to kick off an extensive North American tour in October in Arizona. Fellow rockers AC/DC enter the overall rankings at number eight (power score 1.67) after announcing last week the first leg of its 18-month “Black Ice World Tour”. The tour is in support of the band’s first studio release in eight years, “Black Ice.”

Several other concerts appear in the combined rankings, including Tina Turner at number four (2.28), Céline Dion at number five (1.92), and Madonna at number six (1.78). These bands/singers dominate the Top Concert Events rankings, but The Eagles are still popular amongst concertgoers, coming at number six in those rankings. So are the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (number seven, 3.53) and Michael Bublé (number eight, 2.88).

In the sports rankings the Dallas Cowboys dominate with a 5.55 power score. Eli Manning and the New York Giants are number two, power score 3.17, followed by the Denver Broncos (2.97), who enter the rankings for the first time. The Carolina Panthers (number four, 2.81) also enter the rankings for the first time. Baseball hasn’t disappeared completely from the rankings with the New York Yankees rank at number seven (2.49; they were number four last week) and the Boston Red Sox rank at number eight (2.46).

Wicked is still the number one show in the theatre and Broadway rankings, and by a large margin. Fans are already buying tickets for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular – the show appears in both rankings at number four. Popular theatre events – besides the consistently high-ranking Jersey Boys and South Pacific – include Phantom of the Opera (number six, 4.33) and Dirty Dancing (number eight, 1.49). On Broadway, the popular events are Billy Elliot (number seven, 2.44), the Little Mermaid (number eight, 2.01) and, for the first time, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas (number nine, 1.79).

Cher and Bette Midler</a? are still one and two in Vegas, and Elton John: The Red Piano is number three. Three Cirque du Soleil shows occupy the numbers four, five, and six spots: Cirque du Soleil: “O”, Cirque du Soleil: The Beatles: LOVE, and Cirque du Soleil: KÀ. Le Rêve closes out the Vegas rankings at number ten.
