A glitch in the ticketing system for the upcoming PGA Championship golf tournament in Michigan apparently led to hundreds, and possibly thousands, of ticket buyers receiving invalid tickets, according to published reports.
Just how many invalid tickets were erroneously issued is unknown. The PGA quickly sent out an email to ticket buyers today apologizing for the mix up, and the text of the email was published by the Detriot Free Press:
"It has come to our attention that you may have been mailed too many tickets for the 2008 PGA Championship. If you have not already received your ticket package, it will arrive very shortly.
When you receive your ticket package the number of Weekly Tickets may be doubled. If this is the case, the ticket fulfillment company is addressing the issue now and will be sending you a postage paid, self-addressed stamped envelope immediately for you to return the extra tickets. Your additional tickets are void so it is important that you please send them back.
TO ASSIST WITH THIS CORRECTION PROCESS, PLEASE DO NOT DISTRIBUTE YOUR TICKETS UNTIL JULY 14, 2008.
We sincerely apologize for the error and the fulfillment company will take care of it immediately. Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you at the 2008 PGA Championship!"
The extra tickets, which do not contain a voucher for a special gift from the PGA, will be invalidated through their bar codes, according to the Free Press. People with questions about the invalid tickets are urged to contact the PGA at (800) 742-8258, (561) 624-7601 or championshipadmin@pgahq.com.
