Jack Johnson, Oscar de la Hoya onsales
Pop/folk singer Jack Johnson and boxer Oscar de la Hoya are among the entertainment and sports figures with ticket onsales for the week ending March 8, as compiled by TicketNews.
Tickets for the much anticipated match between de la Hoya and former junior lightweight titlist Steve Forbes go on sale today, March 4. This match is being touted as a tune-up for de la Hoya before he faces rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September. The New York Mets, looking to rebound from their heartbreaking late-season collapse in 2007, will offer single game tickets on sale this weekend.
Johnson’s star has risen dramatically in recent years and besides his upcoming tour he will also be a headliner at the Bonnaroo and Coachella music festivals this summer. Other musical acts with onsales this week include Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z, who have several dates available for their joint tour on sale throughout the week, as are several new dates for Kanye West’s “Glow in the Dark” tour. Soulful singer/pianist Alicia Keys has multiple dates on sale this week, as does British music legend Sir Elton John and Country star Tim McGraw. This week’s ticket onsales also offer two tour stops for Country singer Martina McBride and her “Waking Up Laughing Tour,” in addition to Heavy Metal group Iron Maiden, which has a single tour stop in Washington state on sale this weekend as well.
In the world of comedy, three heavyweights have shows on sale this week. The always controversial Chris Rock’s “No Apologies” show at Madison Square Garden is on sale this week, as is Jerry Seinfeld’s show at the Fabulous Fox Theater of Atlanta and Cedric the Entertainer’s show in San Antonio, TX.
“Onsales” is a ticketing industry term describing when tickets initially go on sale to the general public. Each week, tickets are released by promoters, venues and others to dozens of events, but the number of tickets available can vary significantly between locations.
