Enrique Iglesias, Aventura tour together for 12 U.S. dates
Spanish pop star Enrique Iglesias and Bronx, NY based bachata group Aventura, one of the top Latin groups today, are heading out on a 12-date fall arena tour beginning on September 6 in San Antonio, TX and finishing up on October 25 in East Rutherford, NJ. Live Nation is producing the tour.
Iglesias, who hasn’t toured U.S. arenas in over two years, finished up a 30-date European and Latin American tour earlier this month.
Aventura’s fifth album, “Kings of Bachata,” was the second top-selling Latin album of 2007, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Their single, “Mi Corazoncito,” won Hot Latin Song of the year at the 2008 Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Aventura popularized the guitar-based bachata, which originates from the Dominican Republic, by creating their own unique style mixing elements of hip-hop, R&B and reggaeton.
The group formed in 1994 by cousins Anthony “Romeo” Santos (lead singer, composer) and Henry Santos (singer/composer) and brothers Max (bass and rap artist) and Lenny Santos (guitarist/producer/arranger); the cousins and brothers are unrelated. They are currently on tour in South America through August 16 and will perform August 21 at Madison Square Garden as part of Marc Anthony’s Juntos En Concierto show, also produced by Live Nation.
“As popular as we are, we’ve been on an indie label pretty much all our life, and we’ve worked on a smaller scale,” Aventura manager Johnny Marines told Billboard. “We’re hoping this opens the industry’s eyes and they say, ‘These guys are bigger than the credit we give them.”
