Comedy shows, NFL tickets on sale this week

Tickets for upcoming stand-up shows from several comedy stars and tickets for this fall’s NFL season are on sale throughout the week ending August 30 as compiled by TicketNews.

This week offers several chances to catch top name comedians as they tour the country with their stand-up acts. Monday’s onsales offer a plethora of comedians, including Oscar winner Robin Williams, with a show in Detroit, former television star George Lopez, who has a show in Los Angeles on sale, and Margaret Cho, star of her new VH1 reality show, who has a show in Indianapolis. On Saturday, tickets go on sale for “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno’s show in Atlantic City.

This week has several in demand concert events in the onsales as well. Friday marks the chance to buy tickets to Death Cab For Cutie’s stop at The University of Illinois’ Urbana-Champaign campus. Also available Friday morning is tickets to catch Janet Jackson in New York, Nine Inch Nails in Columbus, OH, and crooner Tony Bennett in Jacksonville, FL.

Rounding out the week’s onsales are tickets to catch upcoming sporting events. Tickets to the Detroit Lions upcoming NFL season are in the onsales for Monday, with their annual Thanksgiving game expected to be a big seller. Also available beginning Monday are tickets to the upcoming US Open in New York. Wednesday marks an opportunity to buy tickets to the Alamo Bowl; however the two collegiate teams that will be featured in the contest will not be determined until December.

“Onsales” is a ticketing industry term describing when tickets initially go on sale to the general public. Each week, tickets are released by promoters, venues and others to dozens of events, but the number of tickets available can vary significantly between locations.
