Weezer tours in support of new album

Weezer will launch a North American tour in support of their top 10 album “Weezer,” which is also referred to as the “Red Album”. Starting on September 23 in Boston, MA and winding down five weeks later on October 25 in Atlanta, GA. Angels & Airwaves and Tokyo Police Club are the support acts. This is the band’s first tour in three years.

“Weezer” is the band’s boldest album, sonically and lyrically. The first single “Pork and Beans” just spent 11 weeks at #1 at Modern Rock radio (the longest streak for a song in 2008), and its accompanying video has been viewed on Youtube over 10 million times. The song is about self-empowerment, where people are urged to follow their instincts as exemplified by the lyrics “I’m a do the things that I want to do/I ain’t got a thing to prove to you.”

Recently Weezer, with the help of local radio stations, has been reaching out to musicians to create “Hootenannys” across the country. An idea hatched by lead singer Rivers Cuomo (after his mom explained how music was often spread in the good ole days), fans were hand-picked and told to bring their instruments to an unusual location where audience and band become one and jam on Weezer classics and cover songs.

San Diego-based Angels & Airwaves are currently headlining all of Warped Tour 2008 in support of their sophomore release “I-Empire,” which debuted in the top 10 and spawned the hit single “Everything’s Magic.” Tokyo Police Club, a four-piece band from Toronto, ONT, is back and currently on the road supporting their critically acclaimed debut full length album “Elephant Shell.”
