Dolly Parton tour maps more ‘Backwoods Barbie’ dates

It’s been a busy year for country icon Dolly Parton, who spent much of the spring and summer touring North American and Europe in support of the February 2008 release “Backwoods Barbie.”

The most recent addition to Parton’s North American tour starts on October 17 at Mizner Park’s Center for the Arts in Boca Raton, FL, and concludes with a two-night stand at Casino Rama in Rama, ON. The 14-date jaunt also includes an October 24 gig at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA, and a November 2 concert at Foxwoods Casino’s MGM Grand Theater in Mashantucket, CT.

Public onsales for Mizner Park began on Monday, September 8. Tickets for an October 26 show at Louisville Palace in Kentucky are available beginning Friday, September 12.

Parton began the Backwoods Barbie World Tour on April 22, after postponing her originally scheduled late February kick-off due to back problems. Since then, she has toured extensively across North America and Europe, where the tour proved to be the most successful of her career of more than 40 years.

In statements released on Parton’s official Web site, “Backwoods” was billed as the singer’s first mainstream country album in 17 years. Though she released more than 10 albums since 1990, most of those studio recordings were themed compilations, including 2003’s patriotic “For God and Country” and 2005’s folk release “Those Were the Days.”

The Backwoods Barbie tour is expected to continue through 2009.
