Little Feat tour announces addition of new U.S. shows

Fans of classic rock band Little Feat have another chance to “Join the Band” at a live performance. The group recently announced the addition of 14 coast-to-coast fall dates to the current 2008 tour, which began its first U.S. leg in mid-March and ran through late June before heading overseas.

The next wave of performances begins with a September 20 performance at the Clinton Center’s American Classic Festival, which features a March of Dime’s “Bikers for Babies” ride. The jaunt wraps with a November 10 gig at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, CA. Highlights include a September 26-27 run at the New York Society for Ethical Culture’s concert hall in New York City, and an October 30 show at the Moore Theatre in Seattle, WA.

At this time, there are no 2008 dates scheduled beyond the November 10 closer, but the group does have a series of shows scheduled for early 2009. Little Feat will kick off the New Year in a tropical setting with a January 23-26 run at the Grand Lido Resort in Negril, Jamaica.

Little Feat is touring behind “Join the Band,” released in July. The album features no new material, but compiles past hits with appearances by a wide array of major recording artists. Guest performers include Jimmy Buffett (“Time Loves a Hero” and “Champion of the World”), Bob Seger (“Something in the Water”), Dave Matthews (“Fat Man in the Bathtub”), and Emmylou Harris (“Sailin’ Shoes”).

Performing a mixture of country rock and blues, Little Feat was founded in 1969 by frontman Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne, but split just a decade later when George died. The group reformed nine years later in 1988 with Craig Fuller taking over lead vocalist duties. Despite another vocalist change in 1993, with Shaun Murphy picking up for Fuller, Little Feat is celebrating its 20th year of renewed activity.
