The Mountain Goats tour takes ‘Heretic Pride’ on the road

Prolific indie duo The Mountain Goats are ready to spread some joy on the road this fall with the Last Happy Night of Your Life Tour. The 21-date trek kicks off on October 13 in Chicago, IL, and concludes on November 9 at Webster Hall in New York after a number of performances on the West Coast and down South.

The Mountain Goats’ frontman and principal member, John Darnielle, announced late in July that singer-songwriter Kaki King will provide support for the tour.

“When I try to talk about Kaki my usually reliable fund of superlatives seems insufficient. She is just the best,” Darnielle enthused on the band’s Web site. “I am so excited about this tour. We can’t wait to play music with her every night.”

The duo, known for their lo-fi recording style, are touring in support of their sixteenth full-length album, “Heretic Pride,” which was released early in 2008. The album is a follow-up to 2006’s “Get Lonely,” and has placed the Mountain Goats on Billboard‘s Top 200 and Heatseekers charts for album sales.

Darnielle began recording under the name The Mountain Goats in 1991, and later added Peter Hughes to the Goats line-up. Though they are the only official members, Darnielle and Hughes have been joined in the studio and on the road by many key contributors over the years, including producer/engineer Scott Solter, solo musician John Vanderslice, and Superchunk percussionist Jon Wurster.

In March, The Mountain Goats were forced to cancel a string of Australian tour dates due to “personal medical reasons.” In a statement on the band’s Web site, Darnielle wrote, “That says as much as need be said; if it weren’t serious, I would be leaving for Oz next week, believe me. …I will be back to make this up to you.”
