Peter Murphy tour announces ‘Secret Cover’ summer dates
Vocalist Peter Murphy earned himself the title of “Godfather of Goth” as the frontman for the trailblazing gothic rock band Bauhaus in the 1970s and ’80s. This summer, he’ll showcase the latest of his solo material on the international Secret Cover Tour.
More than 30 performances are currently booked across the nation, from June 2 at El Corazon in Seattle, WA, through July 18 at the Rave Eagles Club in Milwaukee, WI. More U.S. dates are forthcoming for the tour itinerary, as well as a round of touring in Europe.
Highlights of the venture include a June 12 concert at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, NV, a June 23 performance at the Masquerade in Atlanta, GA, a July 6-7 stand at HighLine Ballroom in New York, NY, and a July 14 session at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL.
Murphy’s upcoming tour will preview material from his upcoming solo album. The project’s title and release date have not been confirmed yet, but are expected in the weeks leading up to the tour launch, according to Murphy’s official Web site. The disc is a follow-up to 2004’s “Unshattered.”
The first of four cover songs, a version of John Lennon’s “Instant Karma,” was released as an iTunes single on May 26. The remaining covers are set for a staggered release leading up to the launch of Murphy’s summer U.S. tour.
In addition to his own touring and recording projects, Murphy has also lent a hand in recent years to some of the bands he influenced during his time with Bauhaus. Most notably, the vocalist has performed on stage with Nine Inch Nails several times, including a 2006 tour that featured a reunited Bauhaus, as well as guest appearances on NIN’s 2008 Lights in the Sky Tour.
