Social Distortion tour announces summer dates for U.S., Canada

Veteran punk rock crew Social Distortion, often abbreviated to Social D, has announced plans for a summer tour of Canada and several U.S. boarder states. The 14-city trek launches July 17 at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, WA, and closes August 8 at the Wakestock World Series festival in Collingwood, ON.

Social D will hit cities from coast to coast in the provinces and states alike, including stops on July 18 at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, BC; July 25 at MacEwan Hall Ballroom in Calgary, AB; August 1 at the Rave Eagles Club in Milwaukee, WI; and August 4 at Higher Ground in South Burlington, VT.

Tickets for the three-week trek go on sale today, May 29. Ticket outlets and pricing vary depending on the venue, and details can be found on the band’s official Web site.

The self-proclaimed “femme fatale punk rock” quartet Civet and Los Angeles-based punk rockers The Strangers are lined up as supporting acts for all nights of the tour, except the closing date. Other acts performing at the sports and music festival on August 8 will be announced on the Wakestock World Series official Web site.

Social Distortion debuted in 1983 with “Mommy’s Little Monster,” and has remained a principal force in the American punk rock scene. The band is currently working on their seventh studio album, which is expected to be ready for release later this year. The currently untitled disc will be a follow-up to 2004’s “Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which hit No. 31 on the Billboard 200.

The punk rock veterans will launch a European tour on June 4 at La Riviera in Madrid, Spain. More than 20 dates follow on their itinerary, which will take them through a July 8 concert at O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London, England, before they return to North America.
