Wicked tickets find its way back to the top of the event rankings
Wicked is back on top of TicketNews’s Weekly Top Events rankings for the week ending May 17. The musical has a 6.30 power score, better than American Idol Live’s 4.51 power score and the New York Yankees’ 2.51 power score. Sports teams dominate the rest of the overall rankings: the Boston Red Sox are at number four (2.37) while the NBA Conference Semifinals with the Boston Celtics in the East and the Los Angeles Lakers in the West took numbers five and six. The Western Conference Finals with the Denver Nuggets follows in number seven, power score 1.94. Another musical, Jersey Boys remains popular with ticket buyers and is number eight (1.82). Elton John & Billy Joel make number nine (1.74) and Green Day debuts in the overall top ten with a 1.64 power score.
The above sports teams of course dominate the sports top ten, though Denver Nuggets tickets outsell Boston and L.A. in the sports rankings. Baseball’s Chicago Cubs follow the Yankees, Red Sox, and NBA conference finals teams in the number six position (3.59). The NHL Western Conference Finals with the Chicago Blackhawks is number seven (3.27) and already played Conference semifinals for both the NBA and NHL round out the sports top ten, beginning with the Nuggets, Bruins, and Washington Capitals.
Besides Green Day making a strong showing in the Top Concert Events rankings, Taylor Swift & Kellie Pickler also rank highly, at number four (3.20). The Jonas Brothers continue to move tickets and rank at number five (3.02), ahead of U2 (six, 2.95) and Aerosmith & ZZ Top (seven, 2.83). Kenny Chesney slips from his previously held number four position to number eight (2.82) while Coldplay slips from eight to nine (2.62). George Strait is back in the rankings at number ten (2.06).
The top ten theater events, in addition to “Wicked” and “Jersey Boys”, include Billy Elliot (three, 5.36), West Side Story (four, 4.78), and Andrea Bocelli (five, 4.22). Mary Poppins is still popular theater fare and ranks at number six (3.90), as is Dirty Dancing (ten, 1.95).
Ticket sales for the Great White Way show “Wicked” on top. Lion King sits at number five (5.21) and South Pacific at number six (5.05). God of Carnage is number seven (3.05) and Mamma Mia! is number eight (2.81). Broadway exclusive Hair makes number nine (2.30) and Phantom of the Opera closes out the Broadway to ten with a 1.70 power score.
Cher is still Vegas’ number one act with a 44.04 power score. Bette Midler is close behind with a 43.68 power score. Cirque du Soleil – O (2.72) and Cirque du Soleil – Zumanity (2.64) follow in numbers three and four. Barry Manilow reappears in the Vegas top ten at number five (1.35), as does David Copperfield at number eight (0.61). Criss Angel: Believe slips from number six to number nine (0.53) and Le Reve is number ten, power score 0.50.
TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales from the TicketNetwork Exchange™, the world’s largest secondary market exchange. A Power Score illustrates a given event’s category-specific significance. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales from the given event and total ticket sales within the category. As such, power scores should only be used to compare events within a particular category.
