Saliva tour fills summer with fair and festival appearances
After health problems kept them off the road earlier this year, hard rock group Saliva is hitting the road this summer for about eight solid weeks plus other scattered dates. The band’s calendar picks up with a July 17 show at Rock Fest in Cadott, WI, and continues on and off through October 23 at the Pensacola State Fair in Pensacola, FL.
The 34-date itinerary will hit markets from coast to coast across the U.S. Highlights include a July 30 concert at Tempe Marketplace in Tempe, AZ, an August 2 performance at the House of Blues in Las Vegas, NV, an August 19 gig at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO, and a September 4 set at First Avenue Club in Iowa City, IA.
In addition to Saliva’s headline plans, the band will also make appearances at various fairs and festivals through the summer and into the fall. Some of those special commitments include a supporting date for Judas Priest on August 1 sat Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Wheatland, CA, an August 15 set at Midwest Rock Fest in Wellington, KS, and an October 4 performance at the LA County Fair in Pomona, CA.
Saliva is touring behind its sixth studio album and fifth on Island Records, “Cinco Diablo,” released in December 2008. The effort was the band’s lowest charting effort to date, only reaching a peak of No. 104 on the Billboard 200.
The summer dates are some of the first for Saliva since lead singer Josey Scott underwent emergency surgery earlier this year to repair a hemorrhaged ulcer. During his initial hospitalization, Saliva cancelled two weeks of scheduled performances on the 2009 SnoCore Tour, which the band was due to co-headline with Static-X.
When Scott’s recovery took longer than expected the band looked into replacement singers, temporarily tapping friend and fellow musician Walt Lafty to step in. However, Saliva ultimately made the decision not to appear at all, and SnoCore went on with sole headliner Static-X and support from Burn Halo and The Flood.
