The Black Crowes tour to stay ‘Stuck Inside Utopia’ through late 2009

The Black Crowes have doubled the amount of time they’ll spend on the road later this year with the announcement of a 29-date extension for the upcoming Stuck Inside Utopia Tour.

The second tour leg picks up October 4 at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC, and closes with an October 22 performance at the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix, AZ. The third leg begins November 5 at Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, MI, and ends with five shows on December 1-2 and 4-6 at The Fillmore in San Francisco, CA.

The next round of ticket sales for the Stuck Inside Utopia Tour begin July 10, with most box offices opening around 10 a.m. local time. Tickets for the Black Crowes’ tour-ending stand at The Fillmore go on sale September 13.

Much like the first leg of the tour, most dates of the Crowes’ second and third rounds will be supported by Truth & Salvage Co. However, solo engagements billed as “An Evening With” are booked for Myrtle Beach, Lake Buena Vista, New Orleans and Phoenix.

Several dates on the itinerary have been left open for additional concerts, according to a calendar on the Black Crowes’s official Web site. Details are forthcoming for performances on October 20-21 and November 14 and 21.

The Black Crowes are touring in support of their eighth studio album, “Before the Frost…,” to be released September 1. Fans who purchase the album will also receive a unique download code for a companion album titled “…Until the Freeze.”

Both albums were recorded in the Woodstock, NY, studio of Levon Helm, whose band will perform on a few early dates of the Utopia Tour. During the five-day recording session, an intimate audience of Crowes fans was invited into the studio to watch the process.

“I think we fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of artistic independence,” said Crowes frontman Chris Robinson in a statement. “Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that we have never done before.”

The Black Crowes will launch their initial block of 2009 tour dates on August 25 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA. The 26-date leg is booked through October 3 at Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, GA.
