Misfits tour hits North America with fall concert plans

Horror-punk progenitors the Misfits bring their 2009 world tour to North America this fall for a 10-week outing that will swing through Mexico, the United States and Canada.

The venture begins with six shows south of the border from September 22 at El Foro in Tijuana, MEX, through September 27 at La Piaza in Mexico City, MEX. From there, the 32-city U.S. and Canada leg of the venture kicks up on October 16 at Plymouth Memorial Hall in Plymouth, MA, and continues through December 5 at Club Firestone in Orlando, FL.

Highlights of the outing include stops on October 31 at the B.B. King Blues Club in New York, NY; November 10 at The Venue in Vancouver, BC; and November 21-22 at Key Club in West Hollywood, CA. The dates are part of the Misfits’ extended 30th anniversary celebrations, which have stretched for several years now.

The original lineup of the Misfits split in 1983 after releasing only two full-length studio albums when then-lead singer Glenn Danzig left to pursue other projects. Subsequent incarnations of the band have been led by the only remaining original member, Jerry Only. The current lineup is rounded out by former Black Flag members Dez Cadena and Robo, on guitar and drums, respectively.

“I think we created a niche. We stuck to what we did, and we did it well,” Only said about the Misfits’ lasting influence and the return of the new lineup. “We never tried to pull something over on people — we just tried to entertain ’em while rocking ’em real hard. Besides, I think the love of the horror art form has endured.”
