Yeah Yeah Yeahs tour charts more September dates for U.S.
Keeping true to their word, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have booked another round of U.S. tour dates for the East and West Coasts this September. The 10-city leg picks up September 6 at the Bumbershoot Festival in Seattle, WA, and concludes September 26 at the Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ.
Over the course of the month, the band is slated to play gigs including a September 9 -19 stand at Fox Theater in Oakland, CA, and a September 17 show at Greek Theater in Los Angeles, CA. However, at least in the band’s eyes, the true highlight of the tour is a September 23 show at Radio City Music Hall in New York, NY.
“Back when we started out at the turn of the century, NYC was it, there was no greater accomplishment than playing live at a NYC nightclub,” the band explained on their official Web site. “Well, we’ve played our fair share of nightclubs, junkyards, theatres across the boroughs since then, but the point is Radio City is not just another show in the career of a New York band like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (self-perceived underdogs for life).”
General onsales for the Radio City show begin August 14 at 12 p.m. local time. Tickets are already available for select dates on the upcoming tour, and complete ticketing information can be found on the band’s site.
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are currently supporting their third studio album, “It’s Blitz!” Released on March 9, the effort peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard 200, a slightly weaker showing than 2006’s “Show Your Bones,” which debuted at No. 11.
The band stuck close to the Midwest for their earlier summer tour of the U.S., but promised at the time that they would plan another national leg of dates. That initial venture included about a dozen dates and was bookended with festival performances on May 23 at Sasquatch! in Quincy, WA, and June 12 at Bonnaroo in Manchester, TN.
The indie rockers were also called on as last-minute headliners for Lollapalooza on August 8 this year. The day’s headline spot had originally been filled by the Beastie Boys, who were forced to cancel all their touring plans when member Adam “MCA” Yauch announced he would be undergoing surgery and treatment for cancer.
