Christmas Spectacular helps hall continue venue dominance

As the holiday season gears up, Radio City Music Hall is taking firm hold of TicketNews’ exclusive venues rankings, beating all rivals once again for the week ending Sunday, December 4.

This makes four consecutive weeks at No. 1 for the venue, which is the flagship theater for the iconic holiday production, the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. A respected New York City theater year-round, Radio City Music Hall gets a significant boost in revenue each Christmas from the Christmas Spectacular’s busy show schedule, performing four shows each weekday and five to six on weekend days.

In at No. 3, Madison Square Garden (MSG) is finally seeing revenue from both its New York Rangers and New York Knicks with the NBA lockout now over. Knicks fans are looking forward to the new 66-game schedule which opens at home on Christmas Day with a much anticipated game against long-time rivals the Boston Celtics. Also bringing in robust secondary sales was last week’s performance by Bob Seger, currently halfway through the second leg of his 2011 tour.

Theaters continued to be strong this week with the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, home to the Broadway hit “The Book of Mormon”, the highest ranking at No. 2. The show’s primary rival on Broadway, the Gershwin Theatre with its well-loved production of “Wicked”, came in at No. 7, but Los Angeles’ Pantages Theatre actually bested the Gershwin this week at No. 6 with its own west coast production of the show.

Sports arenas took over the remainder of the rankings, with Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, TX, the higher ranked of two NFL venues to make the cut this week, in at No. 4. Besides continued solid revenue for NFC East leaders the Dallas Cowboys, the Stadium is enjoying strong sales for the January 6 Cotton Bowl pitting the Kansas State Wildcats against the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The only other NFL venue to get into the top ten this week was Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA, home to AFC East leaders the New England Patriots, hitting at No. 5 this week.

TicketNews Exclusive Rankings and Power Scores are based on ticket sales for venues from the TicketNetwork Exchange™. A Power Score illustrates a given venue’s significance among all other venues listed in the Exchange. Two factors are used to calculate a power score: total ticket sales for a venue, and total ticket sales overall.
