Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Stadium Held First Trial Concert
Kai Tak Sports Park (KTSP), which is set to open soon as Hong Kong’s first multi-purpose sports, entertainment and leisure district, welcomed around 18,000 attendees for the first trial concert held at its main stadium last week.
Hong Kong artists including Jay Fung, Cloud Wan, Jace Chan and the band Dear Jane took to the stage for the concert, titled “Four in Love Charity Live 2025.” All proceeds are expected to be donated to the Hong Kong Community Chest to further promote the development of local youth affairs.
Built at the site of the former Kai Tak Airport in Kowloon, Hong Kong, KTSP aims to host international, regional and local events, along with community sports and activities. Occupying 28 hectares of land, it is considered as the government’s most important investment in sports infrastructure in recent decades.
The whole KTSP complex consists of 10,000-capacity Indoor Sports Centre and the 5,000-capacity public youth sports ground alongside the 50,000-capacity of Kai Tak Stadium. The latter covers the latest technology in its retractable roof and flexible pitch surface which enables to present visitors various sorts of activities from premier football to rugby events, entertainment, and community events. The structure also includes large open spaces for the public such as shopping and dining areas, jogging trails, a health and wellness center, as well as an international-standard bowling center with 40 lanes suitable for hosting international tournaments and a climbing wall on Sports Avenue.
ASM Global, the lead operator of this $4 billion project, owns the project management, premium sales and programming of the complex. It has been on the ground in Hong Kong working for over five years supporting the design, programming and construction of, KTSP which is currently preparing for the opening scheduled for the first quarter of this year.
Earlier this year, the 50,000-seat Kai Tak Stadium hosted the University Sports Federation of Hong Kong, China’s rugby sevens tournament finals, featuring 17 teams and about 10,000 spectators. It marked the first test event held at the KTSP and served as a trial for the annual Hong Kong Sevens rugby tournament, which is slated to be held in March.
“Every test event will be challenging because we are increasing both the scale and sophistication of individual events,” Hong Kong Sports Commissioner George Tsoi Kin-pan told media prior to the recent charity concert. “This is the first non-sports event to be held in the main stadium and we hope we can have the opportunity to test out all the different elements and the coordination among our different staff.”
Alongside the upcoming rugby tournament, Hong Kong locals will be able to see Coldplay perform at the Kai Tak Sports Park on April 8, 9, 11, and 12 as part of their “Music of the Spheres World” tour.
Hong Kong’s KTSP will join ASM Global’s network of more than 400 venues around the world. ASM Global works with major cultural and entertainment districts and venues including Darling Harbour in Sydney, OVO Arena Wembley in London, AO Arena in Manchester and Desert Diamond in Arizona.
“ASM Global develops and builds spectacular venues and extraordinary entertainment districts throughout the world; but nothing compares to the scale, scope and state-of-the art innovation of Kai Tak,” ASM Global’s President and CEO Ron Bension said in a statement.
