Neil Young Rejoins Glastonbury Lineup After Calling It a ‘Corporate Turn-Off’

Canadian music icon Neil Young has confirmed that he will headline the 2025 Glastonbury Festival this June – reversing an earlier decision to withdraw from the event.

Just days ago, Young had criticized the festival, calling it a “corporate turn-off” and expressing dissatisfaction with its current direction, particularly its partnership with the BBC.

“The Chrome Hearts and I were looking forward to playing Glastonbury, one of my all-time favorite outdoor gig,” Young said on his website on January 1. “We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”

However, in a new statement, Young clarified that his withdrawal was based on misinformation. Despite his initial criticism, Young issued a follow-up statement on January 3, apologizing for the confusion and confirming his participation.

“Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury festival, which I always have loved,” he wrote. “Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing! Hope to see you there!”

The festival is scheduled to take place from June 25 to June 29 at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England. The event will see Young perform with his new band, The Chrome Hearts. This marks his return to the Pyramid Stage, where he previously headlined in 2009.

Young’s announcement makes him the first officially confirmed headliner for the 2025 edition of Glastonbury. Additionally, Sir Rod Stewart is set to take the Legend’s Slot during the Sunday afternoon performance.
