‘Sailor Moon’ Musical Sets North American Tour

The popular ’90s anime Sailor Moon will now hit the stage for a new musical across North America.

The musical adaptation, dubbed “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live,” is set to visit 20 cities, kicking-off in Pittsburgh on March 12. An official opening is set for March 15 in Austin, followed by shows in San Antonio, Seattle, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, and Hartford before wrapping-up in New York at the Palladium Times Square on April 25 and 26.

The North American tour follows a premiere in Tokyo in 2018, as well as shows in Paris, Taiwan, Washington, D.C., and New York in 2018. It also follows the successful production of “Attack on Titan” at the New York City Center last year.

“Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live” features a book and lyrics by Kaori Miura — who also directs the show — with music by Go Sakabe and KYOHEI, and choreography by Satomi Toma. It will be performed in Japanese with English supertitles. A separate production is also slated to kick-off next month in London.

While the show is commonly referred to as “Sailor Moon” in the U.S., the direct translation of the anime’s Japanese title is “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.” It has become one of the most popular animes across the world; the show has been translated into 17 languages and sold over 46 million manga copies.

The series follows a group of magical girls who protect the Earth from evil. According to the production, fans will be transported “into a dazzling world of magic, friendship, and justice with its electrifying performances, unforgettable choreography, and show-stopping music.”

Tickets to the North American Tour of “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live” head on sale January 31 via the production’s official website.
