Japanese Breakfast Announces the ‘Melancholy Tour’ to Support New Record

Indie-rock’s Japanese Breakfast has announced their first tour in three years ahead of the forthcoming record, For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). 

The “Melancholy Tour” will kick-off with a round of appearances at Coachella this April. From there, they’ll appear at Austin’s Moody Theater, the Salt Shed in Chicago, the Brooklyn Paramount, The Met Philadelphia, Boston’s MGM Music Hall at Fenway, and The Fillmore in Charlotte. They’ll also play in Detroit, Atlanta, Nashville, and Dallas before heading to various festivals across Europe this summer.

In August, Japanese Breakfast will return to the U.S. for shows in Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Bend, Vancouver, Denver, and Minneapolis.

Presale tickets will begin on Wednesday, January 8 at 10 a.m. local time with the code OCTAVE via Japanese Breakfast’s official website. A public on sale will follow on Friday, January 10. Fans can also score tickets via resale site Ticket Club (use code TICKETNEWS for a free one-year membership).

For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women) is due March 21 via Dead Oceans. The lead single off the album, “Orlando in Love,” dropped on Tuesday.

Japanese Breakfast is the project of Michelle Zauner, who currently fronts the band as vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter. She arrived on the scene in 2013 and released Japanese Breakfast’s debut Psychopomp in 2016. From there, Japanese Breakfast went on to release Soft Sounds from Another Planet and 2021’s Jubilee, which charted on the Billboard 200 with hit tracks “Be Sweet” and “Kokomo, IN.”
