Brooks & Dunn tour postpones final ‘Last Rodeo’ concert to September due to illness

In a summer touring season marked by cancellations and postponements, even the farewell tour for iconic country duo Brooks & Dunn is not immune. Four days after postponing shows in Virginia Beach and Bristow, VA, the pair pushed back even more of their on-going Last Rodeo Tour calendar.

Most of the affected concerts, previously set for late June and early July, have been rescheduled to August. However, a pair of festival appearances on June 29 in Milwaukee, WI, and July 8 in Ft. Loramie, OH, are cancelled.

The tour continues afresh on July 16 at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, IN. Brooks & Dunn, who are going their separate ways after two decades together, will now give their final performance on September 2 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN. The duo’s capping event was previously slated for August 10.

Brooks & Dunn’s original postponements in Virginia were credited to an unspecified illness. But the duo’s official Web site filled in the blanks with a June 22 statement that Ronnie Dunn is acting on a doctor’s orders to rest his voice for three weeks.

“Following my doctor’s order, shutting up, getting well and comin’ back asap!” Dunn added to the statement via text message. Dunn is the lead vocalist for the pair, while partner Kix Brooks provides the backing vocals for most of their songs.

Since the duo announced their plans to say goodbye, tickets for the Last Rodeo Tour have seen a lot of traffic. At the start of public onsales for the tour, Brooks & Dunn grabbed the No. 2 spot on TicketNews’ exclusive Top Events rankings. The country kings were edged out of No. 1 by hot ticket sales for Paul McCartney’s Up and Coming Tour.

The two musicians launched their joint career in 1990 and were recently honored with a tribute concert hosted by the Academy of Country Music (ACM).
