Nine Inch Nails, Jane’s Addiction tour announces first concerts
The first round of concert dates has been confirmed for the joint Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction tour. The outing will launch May 8 at Cruzan Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, FL, and continue on through June 12 at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte, NC.
The 22-city tour will complete a coast-to-coast run nationally with at least one performance slated for Canada on June 2 at Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, ON. Confirmed U.S. dates include a May 15 concert at Cricket Wireless Pavilion in Phoenix, AZ, a May 22 show at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA, and a June 9 event at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.
NIN is also scheduled to appear solo for one night of the run: May 29 at Charter One Pavilion in Chicago, IL. Recent statements from frontman Trent Reznor have alluded to the fact that could be the last tour NIN does for quite some time.
“The approach to these shows is quite different from last year — much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye,” Reznor explained in a statement last month. “I reached out to Jane’s to see if they’d want to join us across the U.S. and we all felt it could be a great thing.”
The tour will not only be a farewell run for NIN; it will also reintroduce the recently reunited Jane’s Addiction lineup to the American concert circuit. The band, which split in 1991 at the height of its popularity, has performed only limited engagements since reforming in 2008.
“Back in the day, Jane’s was winding down as NIN was taking off. Our musical lives crossed each other at a very important time in music. A time where artistry and live performance meant something more. A time when the corporate structures took notice of the value in what was happening, but hadn’t yet destroyed it,” guitarist Dave Navarro wrote on the Jane’s Addiction Web site. “Touring with NIN is an invitation for us to re-capture that spirit that was at a time, inspiring, dangerous and emotionally compelling, as they have always maintained the same integrity that brought me to love music in the first place.”
