NKOTBSB tour adds concert dates after AMA performance

Just days after their mash-up performance on the American Music Awards, New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys have added numerous concerts to their joint 2011 tour itinerary.

Both boy bands are now scheduled to perform 24 shows together on the appropriately named NKOTBSB Tour. The acts’ calendar now stretches from June 2 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT, through July 9 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC.

When it was first announced, the summer 2011 outing had only five confirmed dates. Since then, shows have been added (among other dates) on June 4 at TD Garden in Boston, MA; June 16 at The Palace in Auburn Hills, MI; and June 30 at U.S. Airways center in Phoenix, AZ.

Double-night engagements are also lined up for the double-act tour in two cities. NKOTB and BSB will take the stage on June 8-9 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, ON, as well as on June 17-18 at the United Center in Chicago, IL.

Ticket sales for the first batch of concert dates started on November 19 in select markets. The next round of public onsales for the newly announced arena gigs open December 11, according to the official NKOTBSB site.

Face values vary depending on the market, but several current listings on Ticketmaster.com have ticket prices starting at $29.50 on the low end and extending up to $89.50 on the high end.

This week’s announcement of new tour dates and ticket sales was a well-calculated follow-up to NKOTBSB’s televised performance on November 21 at the American Music Awards. That performance — a mash-up of each group’s biggest hits — sparked a wave of enthusiastic response from fans across the social networking sphere that could translate into equally enthusiastic ticket purchases.

“We can’t thank our fans enough for their continued support. The love that everyone has shown to us and to this project is incredible,” the two vocal groups said in a joint statement this week. “We can feel the excitement and we won’t let the fans down. And with our new and elaborate stage design there won’t be one bad seat in the house.”
